I agree with Bill, and I've been wanting to post a similar point of view; unfortunately I've gotten bogged down on another subject here. Bill (Harmond got to be careful about this when taking about Microsoft) has access to a lot more investor-grade info than I do; I'll just point out anoter piece of collaborating evidence. Look around the various Active*/IIS pages you find at www.microsoft.com, and watch for the commercial endorsements Microsoft cites for their various products. I'm no expert on the PC software world, but there weren't a lot of familiar/big names that I could see. I got a different impression surfing around www.netscape.com. Individually, Sun, IBM, Oracle, and Netscape might have trouble beating Microsoft on ActiveX vs. Java, but collectively? Microsoft has triumphed before, but its scorched earth policies have left it with some powerful enemies. And anyone who manages to build a large business based on developing software for the Windows platform has to worry about the day that Microsoft decides it wants its "fair share". Cheers, Dan.
