but the power of the web and e-commerce is that it will
eventually support 100% of the global population, not just the current 1%

I am not quite sure what you are saying

if you are saying the resources will be there to support 100% of the global population in terms of numbers ...I dont know about that...I am sure that could happen

but supporting 100% of the population is irrelevant..

for example..
I have lived in Turkey.....

.there are servers at universities in Turkey...and they are used by groups on listservs...

computer access is very limited to the population in turkey and more than likely will always be very limited...not because the resource isnt there to handle the numbers....

but because the money isnt there for the people to access....nor is the general public educated even to the use of a computer....

Do you know that it is common for the older generation to not even know where the United States is in terms of geography (is it somewhere near France...)....and many of the woman in the older generation cant even read....and the culture is still one of a woman quitting high school (or if they do finish they dont go to college)...and getting married and having babies and taking care of the family...and maybe helping out in the "shop" .... this is the norm.... I saw a very common phenomenon that some men were "shamed" if their wife worked....

The cultures of the world will not be so easily adapted to the internet as your 100% numbers suggests...

but they still do spend money and buy products....they still buy Coke...

in fact during the Gulf War the men in service were given hot Coke to drink instead of water....
