Doc cop: Rarely occurring mutation (var = "gunshoedii") arising from the species "Homo physicianii". Most known specimens are located in countries possessing state-run universal medical insurance such as Canada, where 25-30 full mutations are known to exist, along with perhaps 5 times that number who portray the traits sporadically. The mutation is somewhat unstable, having a reversion incidence to the parent species of about 10%. The full-blown mutation can be easily recognized and distinguished from the parent species by their habit of spending long hours in front of computer screens and studying statistical comparisons of physician billing patterns. Discovery of billing aberrations causes the mutant species to intensify their scrutiny and launch further investigations, including examination of the working habitation and records kept by the investigatee. Commonly occurring conditions causing aberrant billing patterns often include ARBC syndrome(Acute Remunerative Billing Chaos), which discovery not infrequently leads to corrective action and monetary restitution. Doc cops, although rare, are not yet on the endangered species list, being currently protected, nurtured and sustained (although certainly not lavishly) by the parent species itself, and by both government and private insurance agencies.
