Lots of CPQ key people are jumping ship at Compaq according to the latest issue of BusinessWeek. Do you think that we could be at the high end of this PC cycle? Abby Cohen of Goldman Sachs was bullish on CPQ and Dell in her Barron's interview a few weeks back.

I run a personal informal survey of potential buyers at local stores of CompUSA, Bet Buy, Micro Center and it appears that there is a lot of price resistance. Most of the would-be buyers are just "window-shopping" waiting for after Christmas sales of 25-40% depending on configuration and accessories (color printers, etc.)

Also, a friend of mine in the computer business told me that many small- and medium-size companies are reluctant to replace the entire line just because Microsoft and Intel are coming out with improved versions. Besides capital investments, he told me that their reluctance comes from training costs with many employees leaving for other companies. // CA
