Hi X, I am sure you must be aware that in many restaurants all of the tips received during a shift are pooled and then divided equally among all the waiters/waitresses and in some cases the bus boys working that shift.

This makes it impossible to "reward" a good waitress. If you leave her an extra $5 she may only get 50 cents of it after its split up.

Many diners are unaware of this practice.

My ex-wife worked in a restaurant where even the dishwashers and cooks got a cut of her tips.
