Ok, maybe this is what you're talking about. Is this what you do?

1. Hit "Bookmarks."
2. Hit a red link.
3. Read message.
4. Press "Back" button or hit alt-left arrow until you're back to the bookmarks.

If that's what you're doing, then that's something entirely different from what I understood. "Back" usually does exactly what it describes, meaning it puts you back to the exact same page you had before, without checking to see if the data have changed.

If you want continually refreshing bookmarks, replace step #4 with "4. Go to step 1."

BTW, the browser cache and a proxy cache are totally different things, though they address the same problem.
