Larry,
I did my final paper for my masters degree on telecommunications back in 1994 and I just pulled it out of my closet to check...
In the course of my research, I recall reading about the cost of installing coaxial cable per house, subsidation of such costs, etc...
I believe I read it in a journal called "Public Utilities Fortnightly" If I can find the issue date I'll post it. But the cost of setting up wireless services is definitely cheaper. You'll have to trust me, that this is no assumption...
Another reference I found in my paper is an article called, "Debalkanize the Telecommunications Marketplace," __California Western Law Review 28 (Spring 1992): 246. In it wireless competition with traditional cable companies is discussed.
In my opinion cable is dead. Coaxial cable is a one way medium. Cable companies have to change their basic way of providing video to survive. And its going to be expensive. Of course the cable companies could always contract with a wireless firm, say...CAWS... to provide extended services as a subcontractor....
