Hi Spots,

We're not trying to change human nature. At the same time, we choose not to let the human nature of a minority of users guide the site toward real-time chat.

SI was built on the subject/response paradigm. Our philosophy is that every post is special and deserves its own page. If that's not working, then we need to do a better job of encouraging it to work the right way, as opposed to building work-arounds and compensators.

If you like the clubhouse format, then why not participate in the clubhouses?

To answer others that have raised the question, I have no direct experience with which to back up my claim [of adverse effects]. We're swimming in uncharted waters here. But I know that part of what makes SI work is everyone knowing that everyone is viewing posts within the same paradigm. We choose not to cater to the 5% that want to look at the world differently.
