CLECS and Service Providers Line Up Behind VINA Technologies' T1 Integrator; VINA's Solution Paves the Way for Low-Cost, Multiservice Integration at the Network Edge
May 6, 1998 LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE) via NewsEdge Corporation -- VINA Technologies announced today at Spring '98 NetWorld+Interop that just under one year after introduction, its Multiservice T1 Integrator(TM) is being deployed nationwide by Intermedia Communications, WorldCom, MCI, Allegiance Telecom and Waller Creek Communications.
This marketing of the Multiservice T1 Integrator by CLECs and service providers is independent validation of VINA's initiative to enable multiservice integration at the network edge.
VINA's T1 Integrator is an integrated, multiservice, remotely managed platform that enables Competitive Local Access Carriers (CLECs), Interexchange Carriers (IXCs) and Incumbent Local Exchange Carriers (ILECs) to optimize local loop service to small and mid-sized businesses (10 to 100 PCs).
"VINA's T1 Integrator provides cost savings to our customers as well as our company," said Jim Smith, vice president of sales and marketing for Waller Creek Communications, a CLEC based in Austin, Texas. "For our customers, the T1 Integrator offers versatility and economies of scale through its bundling of voice and data services. Simultaneously, the T1 Integrator reduces our typical infrastructure cost burdens with its single platform and remote management capability."
VINA's integrated solution for lower-priced voice, data and Internet access currently is being offered by carriers in bundled services, including Single T from Intermedia, Waller Creek's Integrated T and WorldCom's Full Service T. MCI also provides an integrated solution to small and mid-sized businesses.
"VINA has signed up a significant number of service providers within one year of shipping the T1 Integrator. This fact underscores the strong demand among CLECs for integrated solutions that can be easily and economically delivered to small and mid-sized customers. In this way, VINA has enabled its CLEC customers to capture a portion of the market that was previously unserved, " said Michael Howard, CEO of Infonetics Research, a strategic market research and consulting firm based in San Jose, Calif.
In addition to its success in providing a component of bundled service solutions offered by carriers, VINA is partnering with distributors in the United States and Canada to offer small and mid-sized businesses maximum flexibility in purchasing and deploying the Multiservice T1 Integrator.
VINA's distribution partners include Walker and Associates, Inc., Welcome, NC, and Cabletel Communications Corp., Markham, Ontario, Canada, as well as OEM partner, PairGain Technologies, Inc., Tustin, Calif. All offer the T1 Integrator to their VAR, business and carrier customers.
Benefits to Carriers and Their Customers
The T1 Integrator enables CLECs and IXCs to compete with ILECs by providing an easy, inexpensive way to deploy bundled services with a single platform using their existing infrastructure. The solution also enables carriers to perform fast, easy, economical changes to service via remote configuration and management.
As the CLEC passes along the savings, its customers pay lower subscription costs and benefit from one-stop shopping for telecommunications and data communication services and support. They also receive a single monthly bill. Since VINA's T1 Integrator is remotely managed, network service providers can modify the services delivered to each end user at the customer site as needs change, protecting the investment in the T1 Integrator.
Market response to VINA's solution substantiates the growing trend of service providers migrating network intelligence and telecommunications switching functionality from the carrier's central office to the customer site.
"By providing a single piece of customer premise equipment that can interface with the service provider for all voice and data needs, VINA is pushing deployment of multiple telecommunications and data communication services to the extreme edge of the network," said Josh Soske, president of VINA Technologies. "The result is highly reduced costs and more manageable service for both the carrier and its customers."
Ongoing Enhancements
VINA's commitment to enhancing services offered by the T1 Integrator has played a strong role in attracting carriers to the platform. With its flexible architecture, the T1 Integrator easily integrates multiple services at the edge of the network, the customer premise. The alternative is costly to carriers, extending the network infrastructure to end users.
Thanks to the addition of the Local Call Routing (LCR)(TM) voice switching capability, service providers can roll out local and long distance services utilizing their existing infrastructure and T1 lines without deploying telephone switching equipment in each city.
For carriers utilizing High-bit-rate Digital Subscriber Line technology, VINA recently partnered with PairGain Technologies, to provide an integrated, low-cost, HDSL-based voice, data and Internet access solution.
Attention Editors Attending Spring '98 Networld+Interop
VINA Technologies will demonstrate its Multiservice T1 Integrator at Booth 5791, Spring '98 Networld+Interop. Also, VINA and PairGain Technologies (Booth 3225) will jointly demonstrate the integrated, low-cost, HDSL-based voice, data and Internet access solution resulting from the companies' partnership.
