It remains to be seen how well over time ad revenue will sustain search engines need for profit. Certainly they cannot trade at these multiples indefinitely. There is going to be a conversion in valuation based on the number of 'hits' or eyeballs captured, to a demand for hard cash coming in the till. The demand will be intense. It's at that point I wonder if engines will begin to leverage their position by demanding 'fees' or remuneration of some sort from websites (Not Netscape, but more like joeblow.com) which turn up in user searches.
