Jeff --

I just rolled in. Five hours from Vegas to my front door, doing 80 all the way.

I went back to NN's booth and the line was so long, I didn't try for a hole-in-one. I asked one of the sales people if anyone had succeeded and she said, yes, quite a few. The drawing is tomorrow.

The car and golf contest were a real draw, but the design of the booth itself was even more spectacular. I M Pei would have been impressed. Many booths looked like The Day AFter the Last Day --- totally empty --- but NN's was shoulder-to-shoulder every time I went by. Besides the car, I think people were impressed with the ADSL demonstrations --- using Siemens modems with TI chips, I might add. :)

I also made an effort to visit each of NN's affiliates and, again, got the royal treatment. The CEO of ACC actually took me half way around the South Hall just to find a specific brochure he wanted me to have. He was really incredibly kind --- and we did find what he wanted and even though it was the last one FORE had, he didn't hesitate to give it to me. The others I visited were Cambrian Systems and Vienna. Cambrian's competition is Ciena and, eventually, Lucent. Vienna's is Nuera and VocalTech.

Did I tell you NN got BCTel's ADSL contract? It's not huge, but is definitely a foot in the door. Since they're 51% owned by GTE and the two companies share trial results, this puts them in a good position in that market.

Now, does anyone have an update on Bell Canada's DSL plans? Alcatel was named quite a long time ago, but I don't think it was exclusive nor do I know what the status is now.

Okay, enough rambling for tonight.

Later --

Pat
