National Vision Associates Reports 14.0% Increase in Net Sales
LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga., May 7 /PRNewswire/ -- National Vision Associates, Ltd. (Nasdaq: NVAL - news) today announced sales results for the four weeks ended May 2, 1998.
Total net sales for the four-week period increased 14.0% to $15.9 million from $13.9 million in the year-ago period. Comparable store sales (sales in vision centers open for a full year) for domestic vision centers, excluding Midwest Vision, were flat to the level recorded in the same period a year ago. At May 2, 1998, NVAL operated 446 vision centers compared to 353 vision centers at April 26, 1997.
For the fiscal year-to-date, total net sales were $70.3 million, an increase of 20.6% over sales of $58.3 million for the comparable period a year ago. Year-to-date comparable store sales for domestic vision centers increased 4.5%.
National Vision Associates, Ltd., the nation's fifth largest optical company in terms of revenues and locations, operates a total of 446 retail optical units. This includes 50 freestanding locations that operate under the trade name, Midwest Vision. The Company's retail operations offer a full line of optical goods including spectacles, contact lenses, prescription and non- prescription sunglasses and a full line of optical accessories. In addition, independent Doctors of Optometry are available adjacent to store locations.
