And it was a great way to get not only the public but govt agencies to focus on the problem. If that sucker (suckers - looks like the New Madrid instability will result in more than one great quake) hit today, figure hundreds K casualties, millions homeless and tens billions damage. And depending on which limb is involved, little or no attenuation to the north and east, meaning tremendous area of impact. And still virtually no preparation. Let's send them the mosquitos...
