My question was very simple and as this thread seemed to have people from foreign countries (face it...SI has US customers as their predominate base) I thought some of you would know as you are connected to the internet.

Is your telephone fee system for local calls usage based or not....

For instance, the last time I was in the Netherlands the phone system was usuage based and when you connect to the internet you pay the telephone company ....like we do in the US for long distance...based on the time you are connected. And it seems most countries in the past have had this type of telephone system.

Here, in the US (in many places, but not all) I can be on the phone...connected to the internet 24 hours a day and still pay 30 a month to the phone company.

I want to know if some of the telephone companies in various countries have changed that usage based concept. And the reason for the question is the idea that internet usage would become greater if that cost was not a factor.
