The problem is that governments tend to rather inept at picking winners and losers and determining what the demands and needs of a society are. I think you realize this as you point out in your post, moving to Peking is a BAD idea. Rich people do not survive under 'red-china', at least not the one I was familiar with. State controlled economies stifle innovation, become corrupt, do not meet customer demand, lead to black markets and so forth and so on.
