>and most important, processor is not upgradeable.<
Re: processor upgrades -- I'd hold off on that assessment until the exact specs are public. Current G3s desktops are not, *ostensibly*, upgradeable yet they have their processor on ZIF sockets with switchable jumpers to acommodate faster processors (whether installed by the factory or user.)
AAPL burnt itself promising processor upgradeability with its 68040s and doesn't want to repeat. Also, the G3 logic boards are small enough to probably be replaced for $500(?) at some point in the future.
Macs, historically, have the longest product life of any in the industry. They're clearly trading on this to get a better price.
$1300 for something that will last 10 years vs. $1000 for something that will likely obsolete in two.
Re: floppy drive -- This unit is the *i*Mac. It is designed for internet use, with appropriate methods of data storage and file transfer -- USB, IR, Ethernet-Server, Net, etc.
I'm also thinking the portable eMate replacement will be the missing link in this "Brave New" system design - CPU-CPU transfer, PC card.

We've got a lot of new very intelligent voices (to compliment the *old* very intelligent voices :)) and it's getting busy.
Please post privately when possible and/or piggy back personal notes as a "PS".
