Rrrriiighht. Determinacy or its opposite in the physical realm appears to have no relationship to thought. The connection between the physical brain and consciousness itself is proving elusive for those trying to establish the link; you're going to force me to go back through that Penrose book so that I can tell you what has been established so far. It would be nice if we had the ability to know what's in books without reading them. Saves time. Maybe if I wasn't a Postie I'd know how.

>>Just to round up so far. There is consciousness and free will in mice, guinea pigs, monkeys, people and Dogs.

No. All the above have consciousness, but it's limited in all but people: self-awareness is a prerequisite for higher consciousness and free will. And as for Chimps.....they reveal themselves.

>>So back to whiskers. If we extend the argument to function - how many whiskers makes warmth? Well, one doesn't, but all of them do.

While the linkage between the physical brain and the non-material mind is proving hard to establish, common sense seems to indicate that the relationship between brain size and body mass has some bearing. Brain architecture may also play a role. But, as Max said, the brain ain't just a logic machine.
