The comments made in that letter just goes to show how little these so called "analysts" know.
Steve outline 4 segments in the Mac market. These distinct segments are being refreshed by four new productline each unique enough that there is little overlap of user demand. Furthermore the time of entry of each new product are set at different times. Contrary to what this ANALyst has said, this is an extremely well orchestrated product transition. Unlike companies like CPQ...etc the inventory of old models in the channel is extremely low. We don't have an inventory problem with non-G3 PowerMacs..We don't have many pre-Wall Street PowerBooks in the inventory. The resellers are hungry for the new machines...if only Apple can make them quickly enough.

#1 Desktops: G3 desktops, Q1 of 97 (Nov 97)
#2 Laptops: WallStreet PBs Q3 of 98 (May 98)
#3 Consumer Desktops: iMac Q4 of 98 (Aug 98)
#4 Consumer Portable: eMate replacement ('99)
Here is the chart Jobs presented yesterday:

>>I am perhaps more worried than before, because Apple announced a whole new line of very aggressively priced laptops yesterday which will cause current channel inventories to lose their value very quickly. Typically, PC companies release one new model at a time-- Apple has totally refreshed the entire line at the same time. Bad move in my view.<<

Another example of analysts twisting good news into bad ones without checking with the facts. Bonehead! Typically analysts release one piece of BS information at a time- This analyst has refreshed the entire repertoire of BS at the same time. Bad move in my view

>>I'd still recommend selling in the low thirties-- your client may well have the opportunity to get back in at a lower price during the next six months if he so chooses.<<

I'd still recommend getting rid of this bonehead as your analyst. You may well have to opportunity to heir him back when he is begging for food on the street...at a lower salary during the next six months if you so chooses.
