Galileo Technology Reorganizes; Will Focus on Developing Three Product Lines
By David Hayoun
Data communications company Galileo Technology today announced a change in the company's organizational structure. The Karmiel company, founded five years ago, is a leader in design, development and marketing of data communications processors based on semiconductors, and posted one of the highest growth rates in the sector in `97.
The reorganization defines three product lines for Galileo:
1.LAN - local area networks for small businesses, factories and universities.
2.WAN - wide area networks for intercity and international communications.
3.System Controllers - components for command and control of communications networks.
One of the company's founders and now its vice president for engineering, Eyal Waldman, stated that the purpose of the reorganization is to strengthen managerial capability in each field, so as to manage projects in a faster, more correct manner, beginning with the definition stage, through development, manufacture and sales. According to him, each product line will be like a tiny company, in which Israeli development staff and US sales staff work together.
CEO Avigdor Willenz said the addition of key people to the ranks will reinforce the company on its way to its next target - turnover of at least $100 million. Sales amounted to $36.5 million in '97 and profits were $10.4 million. For the purpose of comparison, Galileo lost about $1 million on sales of just $6.5 million in 1996.
The company employs 130 people in Israel and the US.
