Dell responding to Customers! ....The ADSL-enabled PCs will be sold to subscribers in U S West's service territory, where the Regional Bell Operating Company has committed to providing its MegaBit DSL services at speeds of up to 7M bps in 20 cities this month and in 40 cities total by the summer, officials said. The ADSL effort is intended to provide consumers and businesses with a single, convenient source for both ADSL access equipment and high-speed ADSL data links. The three partners hope the initiative jump starts the market for ADSL equipment and services and makes it easier for businesses to access the Internet and corporate LANs at the higher speeds afforded by ADSL technology. "When customers call Dell for their computer needs ... they'll be able to get [a PC] with a built-in modem for this high-speed capability," said Solomon Trujillo, president and CEO of U S West Communications in Denver. "The three companies have come up with a solution that makes life easier and better for customers, at least in the U S West service territory," Trujillo said, adding that he hopes other service providers will shortly follow U S West's lead in aggressively deploying ADSL services. zdnet.com :o)
