NEW FLAT PANEL WITH CRT PRICE AND MANUFACTURE TO DEBUT -- SI Diamond Technology of Austin, Texas, today said that its Field Emission Picture Element Technology, Inc. (FEPET) subsidiary will demonstrate its hybrid display technology next Thursday (May 14) in New York. The company's new technology, the HyFED display, combines certain properties of cathode ray tubes (CRTs) and field emission displays (FEDs) using diamond/carbon films. The HyFED display utilizes the existing CRT manufacturing base and achieves a high-quality thin display. Besides being cost-competitive in the market with the CRTs of today, the HyFED display can be made larger, brighter, and with higher resolution than conventional CRTs. SIDT president/COO Zvi Yaniv and chairman/CEO Marc Eller, along with Ron Robinder, chief optical engineer for FEPET, will demonstrate the HyFED concept and describe its technical and marketing impact. "The HyFED concept strikes new ground in the battle for control of the video display market," Barry Young, president/CEO of DisplaySearch. "The technology is in essence a CRT, but it will be very thin and will reportedly overcome the size limits of the current tube structure. While other FPD technologies are co-existing with the CRT, HyFED, which should have comparable performance and cost, is targeted at replacing the CRT." SIDT: 512 250-2702. |
