It is Irrelevant on the sales line in Japan if the costs are still high there. The fact is if the ye is weak and priced in yen the product looks cheap in the US relative to American products. I don't own shares in the Japanese co. I don't care what there balance sheet looks like. I care that the product is a comparable steal. A swing from 88 to 133 means my dollar buys close to 50% more value in Japan.
The mistake Dell is making now is the same mistake the US electronics co made in the 60's and 70's. Who says the Japanese are selling this to generate earnings maybe they are doing it to generate cash or increase market share. If I recall correctly the first Sony walkman was a money loser until they captured a large piece of the market.
