The SUNW / TCI Press Teleconference From May 6, 1998 - I just listened.

Kal, funny you should mention it.

The contract is very important to SUNW. It sounds like Personal Java
and the Java OS is perfectly positioned to win 100% of the cable TV
set-top box market. My opinion is that this is Java's biggest victory
to date.

1. TCI will ship at least 25 million set-top boxes starting in June,
1989 with personal Java and the Java OS on all of them. TCI stated that
this will probably extend to at least 100 million set-top boxes.

2. SUNW will receive a "per unit fee."

3. It sounds like this establishes Java and SUNW as the standard for
"all" set-top boxes.

4. Two or three weeks ago, Microsoft shared this contract with SUNW
with their Windows CE.

5. Now, SUNW has 100% of the contract, and Windows 95, NT and CE will
run under Java.

6. SUNW will port Java to all the Microsoft units. It sounds like TCI
does not trust Microsoft to write that software. It will have to be
consistent and compatible with 100% pure Java.

7. TCI chose SUNW so that multiple OSs can be downloaded.

8. Windows will not meet TCI's requirements.
