Thank you, Thomas, for that link. I read through the Yahoo board yesterday, so it must have been recent. That Yahoo board is really ridiculous, but every once in a while there is something very useful. The link has financials has of 3/97. A bit more recent. On just a glance, Nissan's capital structured seems fairly highly leveraged (geared), and together with the speculation regarding the real value of investment assets in Japan, perhaps this is the reason for the low price.
