I bought some Advanced RISC Machines (ARMHY) this morning. They license proprietary technology to semiconductor manufacturers, much like Rambus. I first heard about the stock in the September, 1997 issue of the Red Herring. They listed it as the third "best overall" private company (Broadcom was first). See herring.com . The company was also cited as best in class in Upside Magazine's current issue, which profiles the top 100 private companies. See upside.com .

But what sold me on the purchase was a post to the Intel thread. It says Intel has licensed their technology and will be using it on low-end handheld and other embedded processor applications and it may find its way to the Intel Architecture CPUs. See www2.techstocks.com

Now the Intel stuff may not happen, so do your own research and decide for yourself. Also the spread is huge and the market markers don't negotiate. Recent sequential revenue growth was only about 5%. But the company is interesting and, like Rambus (see page 123 of the book), a gorilla candidate (particularly if Intel uses them). It went public the same day as Broadcom and is currently in the quiet period. I expect Chaplinsky of H&Q to start pounding the table for this one and BRCM in about two weeks. Hope I'm right.

It trades on the NASDQ under ARMHY and goes under the name ARM Holding, Ltd. There is a SI thread on it also.

Regards,
David
