What a bizarre bunch of rubbish! I'm no MS or Gates fan, but, the fact is that they have simply done a better job than most of their competitors and the result has been tremendous prosperity for all of the U.S. based computer and software industry.

Think about it...is MSFT's success due to their monopolistic practices or the failures of their competitors? Did excel become the dominant spreadsheet because of MSFT's practices or because Lotus didn't have its act together and let 1-2-3 slip off the screen when Windows became popular? Was it MSFT's practices that killed Word Perfect or was it their failures? Was it really MSFT that was responsible for IBM's failure with OS2 or was it IBM???

Sybase is a mess because Sybase lost track of where it should go and what it should do. IFMX launched a spending program that they couldn't afford and it has almost driven the company under. ORCL has gotten involved in areas that it shouldn't have bothered.

Its fine to babble on about technological innovation, but, exactly how many company's in the business today are truly innovators? The very same arguments you made about MSFT's technology being borrowed from others or founded by others could be said about most of the company's in the business. Is there any difference between MSFT's record with NT and Sun's with UNIX?

Grow up! This isn't a new world government and the success of this company has benefited a tremendous number of company's here in the U.S. Breaking this company up or seriously inhibiting its growth is a dangerous notion. After years of watching the rest of the world catch up or pull ahead of the U.S. in so many areas, the past 15 years has been a rebirth in the U.S. as a manufacturer/developer of products.. High tech/computing, has been the driving force behind this and the current full throttle economy. MSFT has been a key factor in this, along with the other dominant company's in the US high tech market.
