Once I had this Indo-American fellowship Peter to study a large project in India. Anywhere I wanted to go. As my project I chose the British Indian photographic firms of 19th century India. I then needed an "institutional home". So, I chose the Victoria Memorial.
When I got to Calcutta I visited with the director and he assigned me my "office".

It was one of the four towers that rise at each corner of the Victoria Memorial.

I remember going into the monument early in the morning. Having the whole place to msyelf except for the durwans. Then, climbing these 40 foot wide marble staircases... up and up to my own special tower.
