Be wary of manufacturers who claim you can upgrade the current CD-ROM to a DVD -ROM drive later on. If the notebook doesn't have an MPEG-2 video decoder built in, or the upgrade doesn't include such a chip, the DVD subsystem might deliver substandard performance.
