Many manufacturers now offer DVD -ROM drives as an option on top-of-the-line models. If you opt for portable DVD , be sure the manufacturer provides a second-generation or "2x" DVD -ROM drive. Many first-generation drives couldn't read CD-Recordable or CD-Rewritable discs, and they read CD-ROMs at approximately 8x speed, as opposed to second-generation drives' 20x.
