$7 a minute? Where were you calling from? The moon? Either that or you are much older than me. (and I think of myself as anchent)

I moved to in Hawaii in 1952, and as I recall (I was 8 at the time) it was $1.50/min or something like that.

I agree with you on motivation for standards by the way... But if we take that back to computers, shouldn't the Win OS have open code so MSFT enjoys no proprietary advantage?
