As it was described to me by this PC afficianado, the hub device he was talking about allowed non-USB devices to be connected to the port. If you've got a whole bunch of older printers, modems, scanners, etc. You can use them via USB.

There should be no arguments from PC heads that the Mac cannot use common PC peripherals! Assuming this device exists.
