Car navigation developments:

(1) SiRF has just come out with a press release to tout a product that is probably an attempt to compete with Trimble's Auto PC GPS reference design. It seems to have more functions than TRMB's basic platform:

sirf.com

What's missing from the release is a quote from Microsoft endorsing it, although SiRF is trying to bootstrap the product with the name "WinSiRF." Trimble still has the inside track here, but now we have another runner trying to get into the race.

(2) The Daimler-Benz/Chrysler merger is going to be good for car navigation products, and more particularly, Trimble, since Chrysler has been the lone US holdout on putting car navigation in the dash. Mercedes uses GPS, and I think they are supplied by Trimble.
