I'm looking at this company closely for a long position but unsure of timing.

It has done a few good things lately:

Unbundled its applications.
Repackaged its products

It still has good shelf presence in the stores.

A lot of people are looking closely at Linux as the only alternative to Windows. Windows is looking old and sad and Microsoft is upsetting a lot of people, especially those in government.

Linux needs applications. Corel certainly has the suite. On May 1 a friend and I were talking this over and its clear to us that only Corel has the power to give Linux industrial strength office apps. There is no need to do an open-source code on the applications, only the OS. If Corel comes out with Linux WP, Linux CorelDraw, Linux Quattro, Linux Paradox etc it may threaten Microsoft. A few days later Corel made announcements that lead me to believe the same thing. Corel may even be a takeover candidate as the portfolio can be had for chickenfeed - $200million or so. Netscape may go for them.

Comments anyone?
