One of the things that bothers me about this article and many of the other analyses I've been reading is that a lot of bearishness seems to be based on the DRAM market. Granted it is a large piece of the semi pie, it isn't the only chip being made. How many DRAMs are used in a TV remote? Most of the low cost, consumer stuff made has IC's controlling them. Very few use DRAM. That includes everything from toasters to telephones to thermostats, anything with a controlled motor, anything that is programmed or is programmable that can't afford to go stupid if its turned off. DRAMs are used in computerized systems and networks, places where large amounts of info needs to be temporarily stored. Anybody have hard numbers on what % of the semis manufactured are DRAM? MCUs? CPUs? Resistor networks? Etc?
I just can't believe that DRAMs are close to being the whole story.
