I take it you are currently short on VTSS (again) and are horrified about the huge increase in chip orders over September (industry BTB).

I'm "uninformed?" You neglected a few critical points, my friend!

You said:
"GaAs has been around for 25 years "
1) The two elements (Gallium and Arsenic) have been around even longer, like billions of years, perhaps even in naturally-bonded form. It's what you DO with these that is important....Silicon has been around about the same amount of time. ...Smirk...
2) It's been less than 25 years since GaAs fab methods have become cost-effective. And, it is FAR less than 25 years that mainstream applications (like high speed ATM and Ethernet networking) have demanded GaAs fabrication.

You said:
"CMOS has so many advantages that it will replace GaAs in all but the most critical applications "
Number one and two above explain why GaAs is growing far faster than Silicon. And then there are the earnings which prove this. Silicon fab technology will move forward...so will GaAs technology. Your argument doesn't make sense here; in fact, quite the opposite...once the physical limit of silicon is actually exploited, there will be GaAs to go further with. As you yourself said:

" It (GaAs) has always been just a little faster than silicon"

And, I understand GaAs designs are simpler than equivalent Silicon designs.
