Projections from this month's Computer:

According to IDC - ATM sales will go from $78 million in 1994 to $1.8 billion in 1998. GE sales will go from $473 million in 1998 to $1.5 billion in 2000.

Other trivia:

32% of surveyed IT professionals said they were replacing their FDDI backbones with GE.

79% said they would use GE for LAN backbones.

GE will be deployed faster in North America, but ATM is more popular in Europe and Asia.

Does anyone know the leaders in sales of GE switches by year?

My own GE plays are MRVC (I think they shipped 2000 ports last year) and CSCO (early stages of deployment and not much of a "pure" GE play).
