Netscape is giving away their source code 1) Netscape becomes the only game in town for those companies who want to modify a widely available browser for a specific site or application, and 2) because the people the Netscape browser will, in effect, be doing development work for Netscape (Netscape gets the exclusive right to use and market any new concepts developed during modification of their browser).
