Mike:

Rest assured AMAT will mention the Asia factor.

It is different for different industries but capital equipment industries, semi-equips most definitely included, are the most vulnerable to Asia. People like Caterpillar et their ilk have mentioned Asia in droves.

The more pernicious thing is the indirect effect of Asia. As I've mentioned before, the cheaper production, the devaluation, the Japan effect and everyone targeting the US and European markets because the SEA markets are in "rest - we ain't got money to spend" mode.

Shane. (as far as business fundamentals are concerned semi-equips are toast. The reason it did not happen overnight is that the Koreans tried/hoped they would get over it by producing, producing, producing. Did not happen. DRAM though recovering a bit, is still too low. The AMAT 10% reduction is a huge negative and if anyone wants to believe otherwise good luck to them. As I mentioned on the semi-equip thread these prices are being based on hope - a whim and a prayer - that things will get better soon. Not that soon I'm afraid.)
