1) you wife is dead
2) your wife is sleeping around
3) your wives are sleeping with each other
4) you're gay

In the case of 4), change wife to partner in all above references.

If, in fact, you are not married, and would prefer to call the woman you
love your "partner," fine. Do it.

If you don't have a wife or a partner, then ignore everything above.
