Jeff there is a company called 3Com which knows a bit about xDSL and the local loop (last mile) which has a wealth of information available...the link to 3Com is the first one below...I've also added a couple more. These should answer your question and show where much fo the focus will be in the near future for increasing access speed & downloads to/from the 'Net. 3com.com aware.com catv.org cs.tut.fi
