If John Galt may interject here, sir. He defines consciousness as
the 'center of reference' within each life form in the dynamic interplay of inner and outer experience.

Consciousness is not a quantifiable thing nor does it have any definable parameters. Although it is a worthy pursuit to reveal the
mechanics of the brain, know now that you will not find consciousness
as a physical, resolved circumscription of the brain (what you call
modules).

And, although consiousness is not quantifiable, it is qualifiable.
As an example, John Galt is confident to know that Maurice is in
the early formative stages of consiousness.
