Week
Big Pharma (-0.5%) was flat for the second consecutive week beating the Dow (-1.0%) , S&P (-1.18%) and equal to the NAStie (-0.5%).
The ever growing SGP (+5.9%) was the weekly leader followed by BMY (+2.7%) which was helped by its investment in Entremed. Despite splitting 2-1, AHP declined (-1.8%).
After getting a Monday am RX boost, PFE profit-taking took over as opthalmologists finally read the Viagra package insert. Closing with a Dole inspired Friday (+4 1/8), PFE gave back 1.3% for the week.
YTD 1998 Big Pharma (+21.3%) is ahead of the Dow (+14.5%), the S&P (+14.2%), and the NASTie (+18.7%).
For the second consecutive week , WLA (+49.8%) just edged out PFE (+49.0%). LLY (Da Cup) (-3.8%) is still the only Big Pharma in hasta Evista territory.
The Big Three (WLA,PFE, & PFE) are dominating (+46.4%) the Little Ten (+10.9%).

Viagra New Rxs are setting a record for a new product in the pharmaceutical industry. In just its first month and without any PFE promotion, Viagra is already in the top ten Rx products in specification.
Over 250,000 Rxs are anticipated for the week ending May 1st. In comparison, Lipitor averages 110,000 New Rxs per week. One stat to watch is the Viagra refill Rxs in May.
The ED Market
In just 4 weeks on the market, Viagra has captured a 97% market share of the ED market. Although the market has increased 1,563% since approval,MUSE New Rxs have declined 63%, while refill levels are greater than New Rxs for the first time in MUSE's history. The MUSE market share has dropped from 75% to 2%.
Viagra Media Watch
There are currently 35 different media themes concerning Viagra. The story that could most adversely effect PFE is "Side Effects (#7)". The most dramatic story that is still being missed is "breaking the stigma of impotence" (#11).
