SystemSoft<SYSF.O> downgraded, stock drops sharply
NEW YORK, May 8 (Reuters) - Shares of SystemSoft Corp. fell sharply Friday, losing nearly 20 percent of their value. The stock closed down 11/16 to 2-7/8 and was one of the top losers for the session on the Nasdaq Stock Market. Adams Harkness and Hill analyst Steve Frankel cut the stock's rating to market performer from attractive after the company said late Thursday it expects to report a first quarter loss of $5.0 million to $5.9 million and said it will cut its workforce. "SystemSoft is undergoing a brutal transition, with the slumping BIOS and Card Business not being offset by the promise of System Wizard," Frankel said in a research report. He cut his fiscal 1999 revenue forecast to $22.7 million from an earlier forecast of $43.2 million. Frankel also cut bottom line estimates, forecasting a loss of $0.68 a share in fiscal 1999, down from a loss of $0.19. For fiscal 2000, he estimates earnings per share at $0.10, down from an earlier estimate of $0.30. "We can put little faith in our earnings estimates, but still believe there is value to the company's technology," he said. The shares had traded above $30 in September 1996. (( |
