rudedog- Thanks for the response. I didn't know that.
Whenever I've purchased a computer I had to pay for MSFT OS plus
other software I didn't want. A few years ago I wanted OS2 and was told the box maker would only furnish WIN 3.1 I then requested to not have any OS installed and was told they couldn't do that because they had a contract with MSFT to install MSFT OS on all the computers they sold.

Large commercial buyers may be able to get computers without an OS installed but I think the only way an individual can get a computer without an OS preinstalled is to build their own.

I think the real problem that the DOJ should look into is the exclusive contracts that MSFT has with the box makers that does not allow a guy like me to buy a computer with no OS and forces me to buy other MSFT software I may not want. Just look at the computer adds
, unless its for an apple computer, it comes with MSFT OS plus other MSFT software. Just try to order the computer with no software and see how far you will get. I don't think I could buy a CPQ computer with no OS or any other software. Freedom in America is to be able to purchase what you want. If the only way we can have this freedom is for the DOJ to force it down Bill Gates throat then I'm all for it.
