Converted Software

Many years ago I worked on a project where we had to convert RPG programs through an automated tool into COBOL. (new system did not have native RPG capability) The resultant code was unmaintainable because the conversions resulted in huge COBOL programs with a multitude of obscure labels. If I remember it right, we gave up on the conversion tool and ended up re-writing a bunch of the programs.

This is generally true for any automatically generated code I have ever looked at - very big, and very hard to understand.

I would be interested in hearing how well the Y2K conversion tools are doing. Are the converted Y2K compliant programs maintainable?
