OTTAWA, Ontario, May 7 /CNW/ - The Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association (CWTA) will welcome guests from across North America to its Supersession on the second day (May 21) of Canadian WIRELESS 1998. Leading off the morning session is special guest Carly Fiorina, Group President of Lucent Technologies' Global Service Provider Business, followed by two panels focussing on emerging mobile satellite services and third generation mobile developments.
"This is one of the most exciting and informative sessions ever put together," says Roger Poirier, President & CEO of CWTA. Mobile satellite services are about to bring the wireless revolution to all corners of the globe, and Canada in particular, with its large landmass and sparse population, is one of the countries that will benefit the most from satellite services. Participating in the mobile satellite session are: Mary Frost, Vice President & Regional General Manager of ICO Global Communications; Leo Mondale, Senior Vice President, Strategic Planning at Iridium LLC; and Marc Newman, General Manager, Washington Operations at Globalstar.
Keeping with the global theme, the Supersession will also take a look at the third generation (3G) mobile technology and services. "3G technologies will bring multimedia and high-speed data capabilities to the hand-held devices of the future. High-speed access to the Internet from a hand-held device is on the horizon," says Poirier. Guests in the 3G session include: Randy Reynolds, President & COO of BCE Mobile Communications; Craig Farrill, Vice President, Strategic Technology at AirTouch Communications; Brian Barry, President of Ericsson Communications Canada; and Mike Patriarche, Vice President, Strategy at Nortel Wireless Networks.
Canadian WIRELESS, the wireless industry's annual Convention and Trade Show, is Canada's premier telecommunications event. This year's show is held from May 20 to 22 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.
The Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association (CWTA) is the voice of the wireless telecommunications industry in Canada. Its members include cellular, PCS, paging, mobile radio, LMCS and mobile satellite carriers, together with trade organizations that provide equipment and services to the industry.
