As is evident by the iMac, the Zip drive is not included in Apple's long-term plan.

Apple is happy to let people decide which storage solution they want. And my guess is that people will want 200MB and floppy compatibility over a paltry 100MB with no flexibility that Zip offers.. I know I want flexibility. The floppy is still here to stay for awhile. It is used everyday by far, far more people than who use a Zip. The Superdisc is a fine example of this issue. Slow, yes, but sales are increasing rapidly anyway for it as laptop owners flock to it, and desktop users realize they can swap out their dedicated floppy drives for a 120MB Superdisc.

The market is gearing towards a flexible storage solution. Sony offers the most flexible solution- regular floppy compatibility, and the use of the next Standard in superfloppies, the 200MB Sony/Teac/Fuji/Alps HiFi. These mega-corporations can saturate the market overnight with HiFi's.

And they will.
