This will shed a little more light on the CREE/C3 deal. From the
May 9th Raleigh, NC Newspaper:
DURHAM -- It hasn't yet sold its first fake diamond. But two-year-old C3 Inc. of Morrisville already is doubling its capacity to meet demand that president and chief executive officer Jeff Hunter calls "tremendous." C3 on Friday purchased $3.4 million in crystal-growing equipment from its sole supplier, Cree Research of Durham.
Cree makes crystals of silicon carbide, or moissanite, and sends them to C3 to be cut and polished into gemstones. The stones, which look just like diamonds, are moissanite -- a hard, clear, naturally occurring substance that Cree re-creates in its laboratory.
