Perhaps a bit too much hyperbole on my part. Competition is always better than a monopoly unless you own the monopoly. The point I was trying to make is that often Apple investors who are also Apple users are reluctant to endorse any cooperation with Microsoft even if that cooperation results in an enhanced investment. Every time Jobs mentions Microsoft he gets boos or laughter. I can't help but wonder if it limits Job's scope of action.
A hypothetical just to demonstrate my point on cooperation. Let's say DOJ decides IE implementation in OS 8.1 is illegal and wants it removed. That hurts Apple. As I've already discussed if DOJ delays Win98 that results in a less rich USB environment for iMac. That hurts Apple.
From an investment point a view cooperation with the guy who owns 90+ % of the market is good and there are already areas of cooperation. I think there will be more.
I think a more even tempered approach to possible areas of cooperation with Microsoft is a reasonable attitude for an Apple investor to take. Rich
