>>>if Datek won't let you short ENMD who would?<<<

I assume the bigshots may be able to get some, but think if you can't get it at Datek, you can't get it...of course with ENMD they have made it "NM" (no margin), which of course means they won't let you buy it long on margin, and anyone who shorted (or bought) last Monday morning and kept the position took a major hit to their BP. I recall last summer CIEN was NM at Datek, I'm not sure how they decide that. It's different from KTEL, which is marginable long, but when I try to put in an order to short I get "Sorry. We cannot accept your order Cannot short sell this stock today"

>>>What determines (besides supply & price)whether a stock can be shorted?<<<

Sometimes the whim of the broker. I have heard Schwab puts "risky" stocks on it's no margin list, despite the shares being available and being marginable according to the Fed. The brokers do take some risk, and sometimes won't on individual securities. Mostly it's supply and price though.
