Award-winning fire and inferno Visual Effects System Enable Premier Facility to Meet Increasing Demand for Commercial and Feature Work
Discreet Logic (Nasdaq:DSLGF) Monday announced that Chicago-based Skyview Studios, has purchased a fire online, non-linear, non-compressed video-editing system, and has upgraded their two existing flame visual effects systems to inferno.
Skyview specializes in production, creative editing and finishing of high-quality broadcast, entertainment and commercial advertising projects.
John Truckenbrod, inferno artist and senior FX designer at Skyview, commented: "I can remember five years ago asking myself two questions -- 'Why is it so hard to execute things I want to do?' And 'Is this the way it's always going to be?' Today, I sit in front of an inferno and I'm loving life.
"Discreet Logic tools allow you to create the images behind your eye. inferno is a hard wire from my imagination, through my hand, to the screen. I see pictures, and I make them at the same speed as my mind."
Antonio Izzo, fire editor at Skyview, added: "The non-linear, random access platform is truly the place to be on at online stage. I can dedicate my time to the original reason our clients have come to my suite, to 'finish' the spot. The video switcher, edit controller, character generator and DVEs are now all linked together, accessible to me with the swipe of the pen.
"In addition, an onboard paint system, color enhancement, and tracking and stabilizing means many more options. One of the most powerful enhancements is the multi-DVE capability. I no longer think in terms of running a scene through the DVE, all of the 12 layers are constantly in the DVE.
"At Skyview, sitting down ahead of time and discussing the specific needs of a project is one of our strengths. Between fire and inferno, we basically don't hit tape until final output. The rooms are completely 'wired' so team members can send and grab scenes directly from each other's hard drives. I like to say we move ideas and images seamlessly."
The ability to create unique and compelling imagery with Discreet Logic tools was evident in a recent job for Barkley Evergreen & Partners and their client, Sonic Drive-Ins. Directed by Ron Finley, of L.A.-based Electric Avenue Films, the Skyview visual effects team worked closely with Finley and the BE&P creatives, to take the director's live-action footage and bring it to another level of creative excellence using inferno and fire.
Investing in cutting edge technology since its inception in 1976, Skyview purchased a flame visual effects system and two flint (now known as effect) desktop visual effects systems in June 1995. Today, Skyview Studios is a full-service boutique known as a leader in production, creative editorial and finishing of high-quality commercial advertising, broadcast and entertainment projects.
